EXETER - Amede A. Baillargeon, 89, of 36 Guinea Road, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at the Exeter Hospital.

A lifelong resident, he was born here June 19, 1915, the son of the late Doricque and Emma (Nichols) Baillargeon.

Married to Florence Lillian (Lil) Emond in 1938. Through the years having 9 children (8 surviving)

Mr. Baillargeon attended Exeter schools until 13 years of age. He then took his fathers position at Exeter Mill Years later he became foreman for the former Exeter Brass Co. for 25 years. After a short employment in Concord NH, he decided the drive was too far. In 1953 he had bought land from his nephew Joe Baillargeon on Guinea Rd, for $305.00 where he built the family homestead and in time started building "chicken coops". Shortly after constructing the home an area for gardening was cleared by an all iron tractor. These fields produced not only his needs but supplied a small farm stand through the mid 1960’s. While doing all this they built first one chicken coop then as time went on several additions. He then went into the egg business full time, which he, his wife and family operated for many years. At one point in the early ’70’s they were tending ten thousand (egg laying) hens. Also as a side business he bought and set up one of the few privately owned saw mills in the state. The Gas crisis in the mid 1970’s brought an end to most small farms as did it the Baillargeon Egg Farm. In retirement he kept a wood working shop, making an assortment of hand crafted furnishings.
