Airstream Camping

Tuesday August 23, 2005

We have purchasing and picking up this 1975 Trade Wind from a couple in Wisconsin. They purchased this beautiful camper to restore and use, and have now moved up to a Airstream Motor Coach.
Our task is to continue the enjoyment of owning/restoring this silver palace!

Here are the photos that start the project, updates will be made as the project continues.

672 Miles out to Ohio - 935 Miles Home (through Canada)
With a stop at Niagara Falls (Canadian side) on the way out. Stayed over in Buffalo Friday night.

Pick up date October 9-2004. Kent's pictures and description did not do this justice! Very NICE!

Out New Vintage Airstream parked @ Geneva by the Lake State Campground

After an extensive run through Kent said farewell to their Project and left us to continue the care of this piece of history. We still are amazed at how fortunate we were to find the couple that owned this Vintage Trade Wind!
A quick tour of the country side, stopped at a few farm stands and stores to get the things that would not fit in the truck. Lake Erie is HUGE, it looked and sounded like the Ocean. We could hear the pounding of the surf from our campsite at least 1/4 mile away.

We arrived, unknown to us on Thanksgiving. The main office was closed? A resident camper coming in stopped to let us know everyone was down at the pavilion, "fillin their faces". On the way down we were stopped again to let us know there was no outlet where we were heading. He advised us to just pick a site, and go find Linda and Phil. So we did, We found the Pavilion, there must have been one hundred people in having a pot luck supper. Outside we found someone when we walked up to him he asked "Can you read that sign?"  So Susan did, "All you can eat Pot Luck Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner" (it was in English) He snickered, so we told him we were looking for Linda? Remember we had been on the road for 8 hours. Inside we all go, Linda looks up says HI! I told her I had E-mailed we were coming, She said "Where are your plates?" Huh? Our plates?
"Go get your  plates and eating utensils come back and have Thanksgiving Supper with all of us!"
We can settle the site info in the morning eh?
We can honestly tell you we could not have been more appreciative of the offer of a hot Turkey Dinner after the drive through the crazy Toronto traffic!

On the road for 7 more hours. Traffic was no problem, as we were advised the evening at supper, DO NOT GO THROUGH Montreal! We came into the US @ Cornwall Canada. At the border we were stopped for a Random Search, 25 minutes later all smiles on the road again.
Once we got to Apple Island we were disappointed at the rates and the area we were parked.
Although it was picturesque $35(Electric only) for a night in a rough, uneven field seemed excessive.
This is a "DO NOT RETURN" park for us.
