Weather Strip
Maintenance

Thirty year old gaskets do not seem to seal very well.

To remove the Window, on my '75 Trade wind it is not that complicated.
There are 2 mounting screws.
CAUTION there may be a small bushing on the screw or in the bracket you removed the screw from, DO NOT LOOSE!
Open the window, prop in the highest setting.
Carefully remove each screw, I backed each side out most if the way prior to taking it completely out. This prevented me from getting whacked in the head. To remove the window from the the hinge assembly you must continue to open the window to release from the frame (standing on a small step ladder)

Once the window was out, I used a scraper to go long the inside of the gasket. then went around under the gasket to release it from the metal. The factory adhesive was extremely stubborn to remove. I used Por Strip to break it down, applied with an acid brush 2 times in 15 minute intervals. This made  a huge difference, very little to wire brush off (using Stainless Steel brushes).

We washed down the window and cleaned it with Windex. Applied 3M Super Weather Strip Adhesive, waited 10 or so minutes for the surface to get "tacky" then worked the gasket around.

To install the window, (on a short Step ladder) center the bracket on the window into the slot, in an extreme open position. While holding it up into place, lower the window. If you are lucky, it will stay in the upper channel and all will be well. (If not, hang in there and repeat the process) Slide the bracket in the window channel, then line up the hole, Most of my windows had a bushing on the screw. verify it is there prior to installing the screw.
