Leak!
Last rally it could not have rained harder!
I have had a nuisance leak for the past few months where the penetration for the
antenna is. Water develops on the inside of the handle and if it rains enough it
drips. Well after 16 ounces of water the best this is to find the problem before
it develops into an issue.
I climbed up on the top, took a look at the remaining portions of the assembly. A previous owner had removed had removed the then broken antenna. Just the rotating mechanism was left. Nothing was visible, the sealant was intact.
I used a hack saw to cut off the shaft that comes through the roof. With that removed there still was no sign of a problem.
I removed the casting Pop Riveted to the roof, it was damp and had the look of years of a leak but no damage to the aluminum or the insulation.
I then brought the cast plate to work to glass bead blast it clean. To my surprise the center section that was covered by part an arm was so porous it looked like Swiss cheese.
Using the casting as a template A new plate was made.
I filled the void with Spray Foam sealant.
(At this time I do not want to install a new
antenna, we just do not watch much TV, when we do it is typically a movie.)
The bottom of the plate is sealed with Par Bond
sealant.
Pop riveted back into place, sealed the heads of the rivets and around the
perimeter.
